What Does the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency Do With Your Personal Information?

Financial companies choose how they share your personal information. Federal law gives consumers the right to limit some but not all sharing. Federal law also requires us to tell you how we collect, share and protect your personal information. Please read this notice carefully to understand what we do.

The types of personal information we collect and share depend on the loan you have with us. These loans may have monthly payments or be forgivable over time. This information can include:

  • Social security number and income.
  • Account balances and payment history.
  • Credit history and credit scores.

When you are no longer our customer, we continue to share your information as described in this notice.

All financial companies need to share customer’s personal information to run their everyday business. In the section below, we list the reasons financial companies can share their customer’s personal information, the reasons NCHFA chooses to share and whether you can limit this sharing.

What We Do 
How does NCHFA protect my personal information?To protect your personal information from unauthorized access and use, NCHFA uses security measures that comply with federal laws. These measures include computer safeguards and secured files and buildings. NCHFA's security program follows a control framework and incorporates core data security principles. Your personal information is only accessible to employees who require access to perform their job functions.
How does NCHFA collect my personal information?

We collect your personal information, for example, when you

  • Apply for a loan
  • Apply for other financial assistance.
  • Give us your income information or employment information in connection with your application for financial assistance.

We also collect your personal information from other companies and our partners.

Why can't I limit all sharing?

Federal law gives you the right to limit only

  • Sharing for affiliate's everyday business purposes.
  • Information about your creditworthiness.
  • Affiliates from using your information to market to you.
  • Sharing for nonaffiliates to market to you.

North Carolina Law may provide you additional rights to limit sharing.

What happens when I limit sharing for an account I hold jointly with someone else?NCHFA does not hold deposit accounts.

Affiliates

Companies related by common ownership or control. They can be financial and nonfinancial companies.

NCHFA has no affiliates

Nonaffiliates

Companies not related by common ownership or control. They can be financial and nonfinancial companies.

NCHFA may share information with nonaffiliates such as financial service providers, mortgage lenders, servicers, and securities broker-dealers; non-financial companies, such as realty companies and housing counseling agencies; and nonprofit or partner organizations for the purposes of providing you assistance.

However, NCHFA DOES NOT share your information with nonaffiliates so they can market to you.

Joint marketing

A formal agreement between nonaffiliated financial companies that together market financial products or services to you.

NCHFA doesn't jointly market

PartnersNCHFA works with various partners to provide affordable housing assistance to individuals such as non-profit entities, local governments and for profit lenders.
